Business Interruption Claims : Special Interest Section home.gif (1442 bytes)

Brett Fawcett

I have been a loss adjuster and a specialist in BI claims since 1973, initially as a partner in a chartered accountancy firm and then as co-founder of Fawcett Faire & Co, Chartered Loss Adjusters, in 1979, which became one of the original component companies of GAB Robins NZ Ltd.

For over 30 years I have been a student of the subject of BI claims and have lectured and written extensively on it to share the experience of several thousand claims and of my special interest in the response of BI policies to economic loss resulting from major natural or regional damage.

In 1988 I wrote “The Insurance of Profits” and co-wrote “Business Interruption Insurance” in 1989.  Both need updating but to remain flexible and responsive to changes in the market, particularly with the development of simple english wordings, the ongoing rewrite will be provided via this web site.

In 1988 I became the Managing Director of GAB Robins New Zealand, after its sale to Societe Generale de Surveillance, SA. (SGS), of Geneva, Switzerland.  From 1997 to 2002 I was with GAB Robins' overseas, first as Senior Vice President and Manager of the Insurance Service Sector of SGS in Geneva, which included the worldwide GAB Robins companies.  In late 1999, SGS sold its loss adjusting operations and I continued with GAB as Vice President International, based in London.

Returning to NZ in 2002 , I again specialised in BI claims and in the pre-damage analysis of exposure to economic loss, acting as a consultant to insurers, insured organisations and brokers.  From July 2005 I returned to GAB Robins to continue this work as a senior loss adjuster in the Specialist Commercial Division in Auckland.
